Artistic directors 2015-2016: Jenny Richards and Jens Strandberg

Home Works is a research that took place at Konsthall C between 2015-16. The project was initiated by Jenny Richards and Jens Strandberg and developed in collaboration with Anna Ahlstrand. Home Works departed from Konsthall C’s location with a communal laundry and investigates questions around domestic labour and the politics of the home.

Home Works began in 2015, which coincided with the 40th anniversary of the UN certified ‘Women’s Year’ which sought to place the struggle of women upon an international agenda. That same year the International Wages for Housework Movement – a political campaign to address the struggle of women within the household – gained some of its most significant ground in Iceland, when Reykjavik came to a standstill as 90% of women went on strike in the conceived ’Women's Day Off’ (Oct 1975). The combination of these historical events and sites were the starting points for the research and enabled it to draw attention to questions addressing the gendered division of labour and how we might communise and resist the contemporary organisation of work.
