Nordic Futures Residency first residency holder arrives to the Research Station.

Konsthall C is very happy to welcome Alex Blum as the first artist to take part in our Nordic Futures Residency. In this program we aim to invite three artists and/or researchers who are passionate about exploring pressing issues connected to the climate crisis through an interconnected social justice lens.

Alex Blum, a trans femme choreographer bridging Copenhagen and Amsterdam, defines their artistic practice by utilizing dance technologies to disrupt the confines of the colonial gender binary within bodily spaces.

Departing from a background in political science, their work emphasizes the capabilities of the body and its adaptability rather than its appearance or representation. Blum's practice aligns with the Nordic Futures Residency, envisioning alternative knowledge production and future narratives, centering on the political body's disidentification from power structures through dance. By incorporating sensory detours and exploring somatic abolitionism, derived from Resmaa Menakem's concepts, they aim to dismantle colonial impositions on bodies and foster other-than-human bodies' sustenance.

Blum's focus on trans somatic justice delves into the body's capacity to sustain itself and seeks to counter anti-trans challenges and the exhausting nature of modern activism. Their research, driven by the aspiration to build queer homes on a damaged planet, aims to create a trans somatic justice toolbox for healing, community organizing, and climate change mitigation, intending to facilitate hangouts, reading circles, and skill-sharing sessions within the residency context.

We eagerly look forward to spending time with Alex Blum and sharing their research through our upcoming program.
