Embark on a journey into SOMATIC JUSTICE with alex blum (they/she), our current artist in residence! Explore a trans* politics of touch, navigate consent, and release your nervous system.

SOMATIC JUSTICE

Workshops 3 & 4th of February

On these two days, we'll explore a trans* politics of touch by rehearsing consent and nervous system release. Consent is not a contract, but the shared listening through skin to possible pleasure and discomfort. It's not a commodity, but a commons that we'll chart our ways into.

Too often, gendered and racialised systems of power teach us to disregard our own boundaries and exceed our capacities in intimate relations, at work, or in activism. We learn to treat the body as a fossil fuel, never as a an ecosystem.

With touch-based scores, bodywork, and dialogue, we will map the autonomous nervous system and explore how a manual for somatic justice can facilitate what it means to be(come) a body and share social spaces with others.

It’ll be pragmatic, cute, and soft. We'll take long breaks, naps, and gossip as a way of making our bodies' knowledge circulate.

alex blum (they/she) is a transfemme choreographer and somatic activist based between Copenhagen and Amsterdam, where they graduated from the School for New Dance Development in 2023. Before working with dance, they studied political science at Freie Universität Berlin.

Exploring the body as site for politics and dance as a method to disidentify from power, alex' works involve rewiring muscle tissue and researching pain, pleasure, and pressure.

As a student of Trauma Release Exercises and a survivor of sexual assault, they research queer somatic justice through touch, consent rehearsals and bodywork sessions as a way to imagine queer hope."
