Hökarängsarkivet is a resident-run archive that was started in the 1980s and since 2004 has been housed in Konsthall C. The global in the local is a project that was formulated by the design researcher and Hökarängs resident Maryam Fanni in close dialogue with Konsthall in 2022 and was granted funding from the Swedish Heritage Board 2023–2024 . The project includes several different parts. The overall aim is to initiate a discussion about the two levels in the "Hökarängen archive", i.e. the site and the archive, and their respective boundaries and logics of inclusion and exclusion. How is the place Hökarängen understood and defined and what are the consequences for what ends up in the archive? And how, in turn, does the archive work, what mechanisms of collection, categorization, order and preservation are at work here, and how do they in turn affect the understanding of the place, its history, present and future? These discussions are stimulated by a fundraising effort divided into two contemporary documenting projects formulated based on ideas about place as relational and under constant renegotiation.

Contemporary documentation collection project:

Latin Focus aims to collect oral stories from Hökarängen's Latin American diaspora. Filmmakers Daniel Aguirre and Morgana de Mello were hired to carry out the work. The result is the interview film "Nico in Hökarängen" which reproduces a number of people's stories and thoughts about Hökarängen with musical references as recurring elements. The film is accompanied by a track list that viewers can take part in.

Extrapris starts at discount store Matdax. A series of discount posters were collected in the years 2021 and 2022. These are bound together into an archival catalog by the locally active bookbinder Johanna Svenonius. In addition, "Extrapris in the archive - a donation letter" (financed by Längmanska kulturfonden) is published with text contributions that contextualize and discuss the poster catalog.

The global in the local would have been significantly more difficult to implement without Corina Damian's efforts in inventorying, creating an archive list and marking documents during and after her internship at Konsthall C, as well as valuable guidance from archivists Aurora Bergh Edenborg and Jessica Nordström. In addition to the two fundraising projects mentioned above, The Global in the Local includes the following activities:

  • renovation of the archive room and site-built interior suitable for preservation, carried out by the artist and fine carpenter Adam Dangeros Gustafsson. The new interior also includes display options and study space.
  • final presentation of the project with the release of the publication "Extrapris i arkivet - ett donationsbrev", premiere screening of "Nico i Hökarängen", inauguration of the new interior and program items in connection with Archives Day, 9 November 2024.
  • establishment of and regular meetings with the volunteer group Hökarängsarkivet's friends consisting of members with a variety of backgrounds and skills.
